Community Projects

Tree Planting at Branston Jungle

In 2023, some of our children who have been involved in gardening club are taking part in a tree planting project to improve our local area.

Dyson Farm

In the academic year 22/23 we began working with Dyson Farm. We have had a representative visit our school to explain the different jobs roles at the farm and within agriculture. We have also visited the farm. We are currently working on a planting project to increase wildlife on a dis-used piece of land. Each class have an area of land, which we need to create a design for, which the staff at Dyson Farm will then bring to life!

Litter Picking

In the academic year 19/20 and 21/22 we have been involved in picking litter in the local community- this has involved both staff and pupils tidying and clearing areas in Branston, to ensure we understand our responsibility to take care of our local environment. We have also been involved in learning about recycling in school and being eco-friendly.

NCS Project at Branston Junior Academy

At the end of the 16/17 academic year, we were asked if we could be a host for a group of NCS students, as they needed a venue to carry out a project. They were faced with the daunting task of bringing an environmental area back from being somewhat overgrown...and they did a fantastic job! Such an excellent group of young people - working together as a team, raising funds, purchasing plants and carrying out a lot of work in the environmental area. To finish off the two-week project, they held a superb ceremony to officially 'open' the area and invited some children, parents, dignitaries and members of the local community. It was an excellent way to end their project and my thanks go to all of them for all their hard work.

What is NCS?

NCS stands for National Citizen Service, and it is a national scheme open to all 16 and 17-year-olds in England. It helps you build your skills for work and life, while you take on new challenges and meet new friends. It runs in the spring, summer and autumn. Young people work in groups, have a short time away from home and then take part in a team 'social action' project to deal with a local issue they’re passionate about, and spend 30 hours putting the project into action in their community.

NCS brings together young people from different backgrounds and helps them develop greater confidence, self-awareness and responsibility. It encourages personal and social development by working on skills like leadership, teamwork and communication.

Branston Junior Academy Community Projects

Following on in their footsteps, we would like our pupils to be able to carry out community projects in Branston. Admittedly we probably wont be able to take on such a huge project straight away...perhaps we'll start small and be successful first! If you know of a small project that our pupils can get involved in (litter picking, tidying up a community area etc), then please contact the school on 01522 880555 or email us at enquiries@branstonjunioracademy.co.uk

Do you have green fingers?!

If you would like to get involved with helping out at Branston Junior Academy (particularly if you have 'green fingers' and would like to get involved in helping our children to learn about planting, growing, pond dipping etc), then again, please get in contact with us - we'd love to include you as part of our family.
